// Take life one moment at a time. "Make a list, do a little bit each day, and stay calm." Don't focus on everything all at once, instead, try to plan for and worry about one thing at a time. It's easy to get overwhelmed and stressed when you're looking at the entire list of things you need to accomplish. Rather than focusing on all the things you have to get done in the next year, try to focus on the things you can actually do in this very moment. Make the big list of all the things you need to do-- but then step away from it and categorize it down into smaller lists that you can break up and check things off of a little at a time. You'll see yourself slowly making progress to the big list as you break it down into smaller parts and focus on that first.

// Stop and smell the roses. It's important to keep your heart open to the pretty little details that are scattered randomly along the roadside in your life journey. Don't be so focused on where you're going that you neglect to enjoy the steps along the way that get you to where you ultimately want to be. Life isn't necessarily all about where you're going, but more so about how you choose to handle traveling through the experiences you're given. Pay attention to the journey itself, not just the destination. Make room for the simple and seemingly insignificant things in your life that bring you happiness-- whether it's an ice cold diet coke, a dance in the rain, a warm bubble bath, inhaling the scent of wildflowers... anything that fills up that little place within your chest with an inexplicable warmth-- make time for those happy little happenings in your day-to-day experiences.

// Act the way you want to feel. Wake up with the determination to smile and give life two really big thumbs up each morning. A big part of happiness is simply choosing to be happy. If you happen to wake up on the wrong side of the bed, well, that's when you apply the whole "fake it until you make it" theory and smile anyway. It's pretty hard to remain truly unhappy when you're putting forth efforts into acting happy. Eventually you won't even have to act! The sadness and other negative feelings will simply melt away and only leave room for real, genuine, simple happiness.

// Look for happiness under your own roof. You don't have to go far to find things that make you happy. You don't have to change everything in your life in order to be happy. The essential ingredients to happiness are right under your nose (which sometimes makes them really hard to find)! Take time to write up a list of things that make you happy within your own home. If there are a few little tweaks and changes that need to be made in order to make your home a wee bit happier, take the time to do what needs to be done to make it happen. Your space is your happy place. Allow your home to become a place that encourages happiness and peace in your life.

// "Make plans, not excuses." It's easy to come up with all the reasons why you aren't happy in your own little existence. As human beings, we tend to be very good at coming up with all of the reasons why we aren't happy in our day to day environment. We're good at explaining why we aren't doing what we want to be doing with our life. We have a whole list of reasons why we "can't" do, be, or feel what we want. Maybe instead of making excuses as to why we "can't" go on that trip we've been wanting to go on or why we "can't" fit into our very favorite pair of jeans, we make plans to accomplish those life-goals that we've been harboring in our hearts for far too long. When we make plans and set goals, each little step we take towards accomplishing those goals brings us happiness. That's a whole lot of potential for happiness, if you think about it.
